This blog is primarily to spread awareness of agenesis of the corpus callosum, along with some other various neurological abnormalities. ACC is a rare congenital disorder in which the largest connection between the two hemispheres of the brain is missing or incomplete. The affect of this varies greatly from person to person, but can include delays in reaching milestones, poor motor control, social and behavioral issues, and mental challenges. Often times, the behavior of a child with ACC is misunderstood, which can make day to day life difficult. Every child with ACC and their family share a life long battle from which a very special bond forms. Whether it’s trying to reach a milestone like rolling or walking, working extra hard on school subjects, or spending more time learning better behavioral interactions, every achievement is so much greater and celebrated because of the disorder. The road ahead may be rough, but it only makes us stronger and love each other that much more.
